Cloud Computing Architecture
Cloud computing has been popular in today's technology-driven world for good reason. Cloud computing
offers many benefits of, storage, sharing, flexibility and easy accessibility; Cloud computing is used by
companies of all sizes. Even at home, we utilize cloud technologies for various daily activities. From
Google Docs to OneDrive to Spotify and Skype, these services are offered to us via virtual networks.
Cloud Computing architecture refers to the different components and sub-components of clouds that form
the structure of the system. According to Wikipedia, cloud computing architecture consists of:
- A front-end platform that can contain fat clients, thin clients and mobile devices
- Back-end platforms, such as servers and storage
- Cloud-based delivery
- A network (internet, intranet)
Basically, cloud architecture can be divided into two sections: front-end and back-end, connected via a
virtual network or internet. There are other parts of cloud architecture, including middleware, cloud
resources, etc., but for now we will review the basics.
What is Front End Cloud Computing?
Front-end is the side that is visible to the customer, client or user. Front-end pieces include the user
interface and the customer's computer system or network that is used to access the cloud system.
You have probably noticed that different cloud computer systems use different user interfaces.
For example, you can't just choose from different web browsers (including Safari, Firefox, Chrome, etc.),
but the Google Docs user interface is different from Salesforce.
What is Back End Cloud Computing?
On the other hand, the back-end pieces are used on the side by the service provider. These include
various servers, computers, virtual machines, data storage systems, and programs that together form the
cloud of computer services. The back-end is also responsible for providing, traffic control, protocols, and
security mechanisms that connect network computers for communication.
